The Department of Labor and Employment has helped more than 180,000 workers affected by the COVID-19 pandemic. Private establishments were forced to close because of the ongoing enhanced community quarantine. Workers have left with no choice but to stay at home and heed with the government’s advice for everyone’s safety.

According to Labor Secretary Silvestre Bello III, it has hit the 1,000,000 marks of displaced workers affected by the extension of the quarantine. He appealed to private employers especially those big establishments to pay their employees despite not being able to report for work.

“I once again knock in the kind hearts of our employers, especially the conglomerates and big businesses. Please extend further your generosity to your employees and workers. Your good-heartedness and compassion is a great help to the government,” Secretary Bello said.

The highest number of displaced workers is in Metro Manila with 246,810 workers, followed by Central Luzon at 179,875 and Calabarzon with 99,178. Aside from the CAMP program, DOLE also provides assistance to people under the TUPAD-BKBK program.
