DOTr submits the list of PUJ drivers qualified to get cash aid

The Department of Transportation DoTr has submitted the names of Public Utility Jeepney PUJ drivers and operators that are qualified to receive cash aid from the Department of Social Welfare and Development. Transport Assistant Sec. Giovanni Lopez stated in a radio interview on Friday.

He made this statement after Malacanang revealed that the Government is reviewing the possibility of giving another round of cash aid to PUJ drivers and operators.

On Thursday, Roque said that the government is considering additional cash aid for PUJ drivers and operators after hearing reports that some of them are begging on the streets.

Aside from financial assistance, the Government is eyeing to give an alternative livelihood to PUJ drivers affected by the Community Quarantine. A proposal to employ PUJ drivers as contact tracers to help the LGU identify those who are in contact with persons who contract the virus. The government is planning to hire about 120,000 contract tracers, he said.

Lopez supported the decision to provide a cash subsidy saying they belong to the poorest class of society.
